Often time, children may not be able to notice & articulate that their vision has changed. So it is important:
1. For parents and caregivers to observe how a child uses his or her eyes.
2. Regular Comprehensive Eye Exams are essential! Annual School Vision Screening is not sufficient.
1. Clear Distance Vision
Child's ability to see far away objects clearly. This allows a child to see the writing on the board, teacher's facial expression, bus numbers, sports, etc.
2. Clear Near Vision and its stamina
The ability to see near objects and maintain that over a period of time. This allows the child to focus effortlessly on their reading material and homework.
3. Binocular Vision
The ability of both eyes to work in unison, the brain is receiving images from both eyes, and be able to fuse them into 1 single image for distance and near objects.
4. Depth perception
The ability to judge depth, see things in 3 dimensions. This is important for activities that require eye-hand coordination, like ball games, etc
5. Color Vision.
The ability to appreciate and differentiate color. This is important as it may affect science & art classes, future certain career choices.
6. Periphery Vision
The ability to perceive objects in our surrounding environment. In daily life, periphery vision helps us to detect the danger early, prevent us from bumping into things, etc
Myopia is an abnormal elongation of the eyeball. The longer the eyeball length, the higher the "power" of myopia, the higher the risk of eye diseases and blindness.
In the past there is little that we can do, to slow down myopia progression. But now, there are scientifically proven methods to slow down the progression of myopia.
Myopia progression can start when we are quite young and continue untill our 20s. But the fastest progression is between 7 to 12 years of age.
The earlier we start myopia control, the better the outcome.
We design this 40 mins eye examination to give a comprehensive view of your child's eyes focusing on these areas:
1. Child's General Eye Health (Front & Back of Eyes). We screen for common eye conditions like Squint, Lazy Eyes, Dry Eyes, Ingrown eyelashes, etc. Any eye conditions that need tertiary care will be referred accordingly.
2. Vision for Academic Performance. While helping your child to achieve the best distance vision is important, we also focus on other critical visual ability like Focusing Accuracy, Focusing Stamina, Color Vision, 3D vision, etc. All these different ability, can impact how well a child perform both in academic and social environment.
3. Risk of a Child having Fast Progressing Myopia. Myopia is much more than just blurry vision, as high myopia can lead to vision lost. Now with new technologies, there are scientifically proven ways to reduce the progression of myopia. It is important for us to discuss risk factors like Family History, Environmental and Lifestyle Factors. Our goal is to work with parents to keep your child's myopia as low as possible.
4. Spending Quality Time. Most importantly, we will spend time to explain our findings and educate both you and your child good vision habits to instill healthy eye habits into their daily life.
We see Vision as a very important part of a child's overall well-being, so yearly Comprehensive Eye Exam is recommended.

This is an annual program, where we will review the child's vision on a quarterly basis. This has 2 main purpose:
1. Keep track of changes to their eye power and the length of the eyeball. Intervene only if required.
2. Constant reminder to the child on the importance of good visual habits
Goal is to keep myopia progression at bay
